The Harvard Club of Santa Barbara (HCSB) has arranged a Zoom meeting to hear from Santa Barbara Councilmember and Harvard alumna Meagan Harmon, on July 9, 2020, 5:00 p.m.  Here, in Ms. Harmon's own words, is a description of her talk:

I’m thrilled to be joining the Harvard Club of Santa Barbara to connect with fellow alums and to share a little bit about my experience in municipal government over the last year.  I’ll be discussing the challenges, the surprises, the proud moments and the disappointments – all the up’s and down’s that come with governing during the global COVID-19 pandemic.  A destination city like ours is facing unique difficulties, but Santa Barbara is uniquely resilient and uniquely equipped to meet this moment with vision, passion and empathy.  I look forward to sharing about my work on the Santa Barbara City Council and to engaging with you about the future you want to see for our city.

Price is free, and you may invite guests to join.  Kindly RSVP here on this page, and the Zoom meeting link will be emailed to you and your guests prior to the event.  At the end of the presentation, there will be a moderated Q&A session.

Meagan Harmon received her B.A. in history from all-women's Wellesley College (where both her commitment to feminism and her love of the political process took root), her Master's from Harvard University in Middle Eastern Studies (2010), and her law degree from New York University.

These days Meagan is a practicing real estate finance lawyer with the local law firm of Griffith & Thornburgh. Prior to practicing, she spent a year at Harvard Law School, where she researched and wrote on two areas: modern Islamic finance practice and effective implementation of humanitarian aid. She spent much of her 20’s as an aid worker across the Middle East and North Africa, including a year in Afghanistan working with a German NGO to implement a large-scale humanitarian services project in villages across the country.

Meagan was appointed to represent Santa Barbara's downtown district to the Santa Barbara City Council in February of 2019. She loves being a part of city government and local politics and she is passionate about making life in Santa Barbara easier and more sustainable for our working families. Meagan was recently reappointed to a two-year term.

Meagan's most important job is as a mom to her awesome three-year old daughter, Maura, and as a wife, to her equally awesome husband, Nick.
