Tour of SB Courthouse Clock Gallery

Join us for a tour of the Bisno-Schall Clock Gallery in the Santa Barbara Courhouse, followed by lunch at nearby Petros Restaurant

The Harvard Club of Santa Barbara (HCSB) has arranged a guided tour of the Bisno-Schall Clock Gallery in the historic Santa Barbara Courthouse, 1100 Anacapa Street, on Friday March 6, 11:20 a.m. This event is for HCSB members (and one guest).

The large, Seth Thomas tower clock, #2744, built in Thomaston, CT, was installed in the then new Santa Barbara Courthouse in 1929 where it has been ticking ever since — but never seen by the public. The clock had been hiding for 83 years in a room used for storage until HCSB member Dr. David Bisno (AB '61) and his wife, Fay, decided that was a shame. They envisioned turning the room into a beautiful, world class gallery of horology celebrating the clock, open to the public. With the guidance of Harvard’s curator of its collection of Historic Instruments and Time and Space, William Andrewes, the gallery is now a major city attraction drawing over 250 visitors a day. Our private tour will be led by Dr. Bisno himself.

In addition to the tour of the museum, attendees will have a chance to climb up to the clock tower's observation deck, which offers one of the best panoramic views of the city.

As well, Harvard Magazine published an article on the Gallery in the fall of 2012:

We will meet outside the courthouse under the arch facing Anacapa Street (as seen in the photo above), at 11:20 a.m.  Parking is available in the garage directly across the street. There is no cost for the tour. Following the tour (about 12:20 p.m.) we'll walk to nearby Petros Restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is located at 1316 State St, directly across from the Arlington Theater, and their lunch menu may be examined here. The bill for lunch will be on separate tabs.

Attendance is limited to 20, so please secure a spot early by logging in and clicking on the link below for a ticket.
