Leisurely beach walk at low tide
Come join other Harvard alumni in exploring the tide pools at Hendry's Beach.
Some of the lowest tides in Santa Barbara occur during the Winter months, offering good access to the interesting tide pools. On Saturday, Nov. 22, 1:30-5:00 p.m. we'll take advantage of an especially low tide with a leisurely stroll along the beach. We'll begin at Hendry's Beach (aka Arroyo Burro Beach) and head toward Hope Ranch Beach, turning around when it seems to suit the group. The lowest tide is at 3:38 p.m., and, if the weather is clear, we should be seeing the sunset about an hour later (ca. 4:50 p.m.). Sunsets here can be quite beautiful.
Please bring water and any refreshments you may need, and of course wear suitable clothing and shoes (tar on the beach is a possibility, so old shoes are a good idea). A flashlight might also be a good idea, if you are inclined to linger, but we will try to return as a group (and generally stay together as a group, depending on how many attend). There should be adequate light for walking for some time after 4:50, but much depends on the weather.
We'll meet at 1:30 p.m. at the benches at Hendry's Beach, and we'll take about 20 minutes to allow everyone to arrive and get acquainted with each other before beginning the beach walk. After the walk and sunset, there is also the possibility of enjoying a beverage or snack at the restaurant at Hendry's Beach.
We hope to see many of you there! You're also welcome to invite friends and family.
Due to low response and the possibility of rainy weather, this event has regrettably been cancelled.
