The Adelfos Ensemble
A Santa Barbara a-cappella group, performing a tribute to 20th-century English composer John Taverner
Join the Adelfos Ensemble on October 5 as they present the music of two ‘Holy Minimalists,’ Sir John Tavener and Arvo Pärt. By turns lush, mysterious, meditative, and astringent, choral works such as Tavener’s “The Lamb” and “Song for Athene” and Pärt’s “Magnificat” and “Bogoroditse djevo” will be performed alongside instrumental selections featuring guest artist, cellist Claudia Vanderschraaf. Don’t miss your opportunity to hear this beautiful and seldom-heard repertoire!
The Adelfos Ensemble offers the best of a-cappella and other choral music to audiences in the Santa Barbara area through live performances, radio broadcasts, and recordings. The group programs a broad repertoire of music spanning more than a millennium, from ancient chant and Renaissance motets to folksong arrangements and contemporary works. Adelfos Ensemble exists to explore the wide world of choral literature and, as the Santa Barbara News-Press observed, to “move right and left of center in the choral tradition.”
