An afternoon at our new president's home
A casual family-friendly get-together at the home of our new president Albert Lindemann.
The SB Harvard Club’s new Board of Directors has been discussing club-sponsored activities that might be attractive to a wider group of alumni, especially those whose schedules make attending luncheons difficult or those whose family obligations, especially young children, complicate attending evening events.
We have decided to explore hosting a series of late afternoon (3:30 p.m.–6:00 p.m.) family-friendly events (singles also welcome) that are informal, no-cost, out-of-doors, and limited each time to approximately 25 people. The first of these will be at the home of Albert and Barbara Lindemann (Albert is the new President of the HCSB), on Thursday, May 22.
Their home is situated on a six-acre area, in the 1920's called the “Mission Gardens.” It is about a half mile north of the SB Botanic Garden, bordering directly on the Los Padres National Forest. It resembles the Botanic Garden in that it spans Mission Creek, an area lined with live oaks, sycamores, and bay laurel trees, massive boulders, waterfalls, swimming holes — and even an old dam that once was used to collect water for the surrounding gardens, roughly similar to the Botanic Garden’s Indian Dam.
The agenda for this first event will be as follows:
3:30-4:00 Arrivals, introductions (most members of the new Board will be there).
4:00-4:45 The Lindemann family’s experiences in staying to confront the Jesusita fire of May 2009 [Google “Jesusita Fire”; Wikipedia also has an article on it].
4:45-6:00 A tour of the area, visiting the resident donkeys, a hike to Mission Creek.
Note: the time 3:30-6:00 is designed so that children can be picked up at school and come directly.
Non-alcoholic refreshments and snacks will be available. Please dress informally, with comfortable shoes, suitable for hiking for those who want to hike to Mission Creek.
This event is open to all area Harvard alumni. Please RSVP soon, as we are limiting the number of guests to 25. The exact address will be emailed to attendees a few days before the event.
