Tom Everhart, former Harvard Overseer, at lunch November 7

Please join us for a Harvard Club lunch – with the added attraction of a distinguished speaker – at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, at the Palace Grill, 8 East Cota Street, Santa Barbara.  The Palace is a contemporary American grill, celebrating the cuisine and culture of New Orleans.  Louisiana Gumbo, Creole Crawfish Crabcakes, Blackened or Grilled Fresh Salmon, are among its specialties.

The highlight will be a talk by one of our members, Tom Everhart (A.B. Harvard '53, Ph.D. Cambridge University '58).  President Emeritus of Caltech, he has had a remarkable career in physics,  engineering, teaching, and university administration in a number of U.S. institutions: not only Caltech but, among others, the University of California, Berkeley (where he was a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science for twenty years), Cornell, and the University of Illinois.  Of particular interest to our Club members are his years of service on Harvard's Board of Overseers.

And we will hear about those years. The title of his after-lunch talk to us is: "Harvard Revisited: 1999-2005." Tom will share his impressions of his experiences as an Overseer and Chair of the Visiting Committee for Engineering and Applied Sciences.

If you can come, please send a check payable to Harvard Club of Santa Barbara for $30.00 per person to Ed Bookin, 5616 Berkeley Rd., Goleta 93117, to reach him by Friday Nov. 2.  Please bring a friend!  The $30.00 includes food, soft drink, tax and gratuity; wine and other drinks are also available, at individual cost.  You can also contact Ed at (805) 683-9429 or email him: ed.bookin@gmail.com.  Seating is limited, so send in your check without delay!

We hope to see you on Wednesday, November 7 for our lunch at the Palace and an illuminating talk by Tom Everhart.  It will be a most enjoyable and rewarding Harvard Club get-together!
